Today Zik Software released Deadlines Pro, a deadlines manager and calculator app for iPhone and iPad.

Deadlines Pro is available right now on the App Store, with an introductory price of $0.99.

Please find below the main features of the software.

- Straightforward Management of your Deadlines
Deadlines Pro always keeps your tasks ordered from the most urgent to the least urgent, thus overdue, due today and upcoming deadlines will always stay at the top, while less urgent or completed ones will stay at the bottom.
The box at the left of each entry is labeled with the number of days remaining to complete the deadline and colored in accordance with its urgency: simply tap on the box to check it and mark the deadline as completed.
You can clear all completed items at once by tapping on the “trash checked” icon.

- Full-featured Deadlines Computation
Tap on a deadline to access its details and fix or compute the deadline date specifying a start date and the number of days to deadline.
Deadlines Pro allows you to automatically shift the start date of the computation to the end of the month (very useful for invoices) and skip specific days of the week or holidays.
You can also review the computation and see every single day that was skipped, along with the reason why it was skipped, with the ability of turning off the skip of a specific day, regardless of the skip rule previously set up.

- Supports National and Personal Holidays
Skipping holidays is as simple as selecting a calendar with holidays, thus the computation can be easily customized with your own holidays. Deadlines Pro also provides a built-in browser that is optimized for subscribing to holiday calendars from The Mozilla Foundation Holiday Calendars Directory or every other iCal calendar available across the Web (Skipping holidays requires iOS 5.0 or later).

- I write it once, you alert me everywhere
Use the “bell” icon on the right of each deadline to create a linked calendar event with an alarm, thus you can be alerted about the deadline even if the app is not opened and also when you are using any other device sharing the same calendar. When a deadline is linked to a calendar event, its bell icon is highlighted and every change to the deadline will be pushed to the linked calendar event (unless you turn off the corresponding option in the settings). You can also tap on the highlighted bell icon to modify the event manually.

- Quickly import all deadlines already noted on your calendars
If you used to keep track of your deadlines using a calendar on the device, you can quickly import all of its events and create corresponding deadlines tapping on the “calendar with arrow” icon. Deadlines imported from your calendars are automatically linked with the corresponding calendar events, thus you can reimport the calendar at a later time to add new deadlines without duplicating existing ones.

- Built-in Calendar Widget
The app also includes a handy built-in calendar widget that you can use for reference, which can be shown or hidden as needed using the “calendar” icon.

- Universal App
Deadlines Pro is a Universal App that runs on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. This means that you can buy the app once and use it on every kind of device you won.

- Optimized for Retina Display
Looks wonderful on the retina display of the new iPad, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S

I haven’t been able to update the site much in the last few weeks because I’ve been busy with my last exam at university. The good news is that I passed the exam with best marks, thus I completed the course for the master’s degree in computer science. Now the last step is the thesis: I will start to work on it very soon and plan to graduate in July.
Speaking about the site development progress, I added Services and Support sections, which obviously include new contents but also are the new home for the portfolio page and the legacy downloads page, respectively. I also added a stylesheet for printing and fixed the usual display bugs on IE, plus some other minor changes

In the last few days, I made some improvements to the CSS, added RSS Feed and a page to subscribe ZikNews newsletter, and also added portfolio pages for PrefsOverload, AliasMultiplier, iLink and SprintDVD.

I plan to remove this development blog within a month. Maybe I’ll set up another blog or I will simply replace this page with a real home page.

Appearently, that’s the first post of this blog.

As you see, after years of “hidden” custom development works, I decided to give a refresh to the Zik Software website.

The site is still under development, but I decided to get it online anyway, mainly to help me find the courage to complete it.

Any new software coming out? There are some projects on the pipeline, but I can’t promise anything, since I’m also studying for my last exam of the master’s degree in computer science and, at the same time, I have two ongoing custom dev projects.

By the way, I currently have an announcement, in addition to the new website: I decided to give away my old software for free!! The shareware on this site hasn’t been updated for years, since I put quite all of my efforts on custom development. So the apps became outdated and often do not work with modern Mac OS X. As a vintage computing passionate, I thought they could still be useful for people using old hardware and I decided to give them for free. Hence I’ve set up a page with download links and unlock serial numbers for all of my old software. You can find it here.

As I finish writing this post, I notice that this is the second time that I inaugurate my website on February 3: were I mystic, I could think that’s not a coincidence…
